If covid prevents “live” travel … then do a “digital” trip!

Ever since 2013 I have done a driving trip in April, May or June. Unfortunately this year due to the coronavirus pandemic I had to cancel my April driving trip … I was planning to return to the Grand Canyon for another hike down into the canyon.

I decided in March to try a digital trip using photos from previous trips I had taken … including a few from 1970 and 1972 trips I took with my parents and brothers.

I created a Flickr album and posted photos each day as if I were driving my originally proposed route …

The trip included staying on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, at Bright Angel Lodge in the Grand Canyon and on the Delta King in Sacramento … I had visited the Queen Mary in 1972 and had previously stayed at both Bright Angel Lodge and the Delta King before … I was looking forward to returning but the coronavirus made that impossible. The trip also including returning to Yosemite National Park which I last visited in 1970.

The digital trip was a way for me to relive the past and survive the present!

Here are a few photos from that “trip” …

April 8, 2019 – Union Pacific at Salem, Oregon
April 8, 2018 – Mount Shasta, California
July 8, 1972 – Rick at the Queen Mary, Long Beach, California
April 11, 2019 – Grand Canyon, Arizona
April 14, 2019 – Desert View Watchtower, Grand Canyon
June 25, 1970 – My Mum in front of Half Dome from Glacier Point, Yosemite National Park, California
April 24, 2019 – Delta King, Sacramento, California
